Sorry for not posting in a while, but we've been busy! I only have three days of school left! And then its on to taking graduate courses and getting the nursery (and house) ready for the baby.
We hate to say it, but Peggy has been feeling better lately. We hate to say it because last time we did, she got worse again! She has only puked twice in the last week, hooray! We've actually been able to eat dinner together a couple times recently. And she doesn't have to leave the room anymore when I open a bag of chips. Progress I tell ya!
We're trying to get into a routine of walking every night again. We walked a lot last year, but with so much going on this year, the dog has been feeling a little neglected.
In other news, the vegetable garden is coming along well. I'll have to get some pictures soon. The tomato plants survived luckily, although no sign of any tomatoes yet. The beans, peas, and carrots are looking great as well. The one onion plant and the spinach and brocolli are looking pretty darn good too! The baby is going to eat good this summer! (through Peggy of course). Next year I'll have a little baby to help me (wait, I mean supervise me) in the garden.
We're looking forward to our trip to Minnesota in a couple of weeks!

Giraff?!?
Last night we headed up to Babies R Us to finish up our registry (just what every guy wants to do on a friday night after a long week). We picked out a crib, and headed for the bedding section. We decided we wanted a zoo theme, but there were three different bedding sets with a zoo theme!
So, we were roaming around looking at them, when I noticed one of the bumpers had an enormous mispelling! For all of you non-new parents out there, a bumper is a thing that goes along the sides of the inside of the crib. Kind of like the bumpers when you go bowling that keep the ball from ending up in the gutter. I guess these are designed to prevent your baby from rolling into the gutter?!? Here's what one looks like:
So we were looking at this one in a crib, when I notice that on the bumper they spelled giraffe without the e? Just "giraff." Yeah, that's just what I want.....my precious baby growing up next to mispelled words! I can already see it.....my baby boy (or girl) standing up in front of their entire elementary school in the finals of the spelling bee:

And Johnny thinks to himself "YES! This was the first word I ever learned how to spell because I woke up next to it every morning! G-I-R-A-F-F!" And the judge says, "I'm sorry Johnny, but you are now doomed to a life of misery for missing the E on the end" as the kindergartener yells from the back of the gymnasium "Idiot, how could you forget the E?!" I'll be darned if I let my child go through this!
Now maybe this was a return or something and the last letter just fell off? Needless to say, we didn't go for that set.
Here's a picture of the set we decided on:

To me this looks more like a boys set, so here's to hoping for a boy!

Best Meal of the Week
I woke up not feeling great, but soon after breakfast I started feeling much better. Today I ate poptarts and an apple for breakfasst, I enjoyed a couple granola bars and some grapes and cinnoman applesauce for my morning snack....then the best part of the day.
My boss brought in hot subs for the whole newsroom. Forget that it is 7am, it was the best sub ever!
But the day gets even better. Our feature reporter had been out in the field live at a county fair and brought back fair food, oh yeah! I had part of a bloomin onion, a mini deep friend snickers bar and a piece of funnel cake. Yep I ate all of that before 9a today.
And I feel really good, I think I probably gained back that pound I had lost just in the first half of my day.
Happy Friday!

The heartbeat!
Peggy had another checkup today, and we got to hear the baby's heartbeat!
Hopefully the link to the audio will work for you, because it was a pain in the butt to get it in there! If not, and you really want to hear it, shoot one of us an email and we can just send you the mp3.
Peggy is proud to report that she has lost a pound since her last check-in a month ago. I think the weight has just been "redistributing" as her doctor so kindly put it.
It was kind of weird when Peggy had to ask if we could record the heartbeat, so hopefully you enjoy it!
Oh, and we can't forget the gross out story of the week. Yesterday, Peggy decided it would be a good idea to eat lunch and use the laptop at the same time. So, thinking she had to yawn, she puked all over our brand new table! And the laptop too! Yes, the very laptop I am writing this post from.....ewwwwwwwwww! She now tells me that she "didn't puke all over the laptop, just splattered on the monitor" As if that makes it any better. She is now forbidden (yes I said forbidden) from eating and being on the computer at the same time!
Tomorrow is 14 weeks!

Baby's first run in with the cops!
Yikes! So, we were on the way home from a mothers day dinner on sunday. I made a left onto a busy street, and maybe cut it a little too close. A little ways down the road, a cop pulled up behind us at a stop light. He was typing in his computer and talking into his radio, so I knew it wasn't good news. So, I tried to see if I was getting pulled over by getting into the other lane (even though eventually I didn't need to be in that lane). Of course he got over behind me. So he followed me another 1/2 mile or so, then I needed to get back over. Again, he got over. DOH! At this point I knew it was inevitable.
He flashed his lights, and I pulled over. I've never been pulled over before, so I was nervous, and I really didn't know what I was being pulled over for.
So he comes up to the window and says "are you aware that the plates don't match the vehicle description?" All I can think is, "uh oh, that's definitely not good." I said that I have no idea why they wouldn't, I just got them last summer. He asked for registration, which I gave him. But I only had the old registration (with the old plate numbers) and the receipt for the current one (but without the new plates on it). So he went back and forth to his car a couple times, and eventually just told me the DMV screwed up and that I needed to go back there, but wouldn't be getting a ticket. WAHOO!
So he let us go on our way. Of course, I've never been pulled over before, and when I do it wasn't even my fault! Ugh.
As if I needed another reason to hate the DMV!!!
So the baby survived his (um, I mean his/her) first time being pulled over by the cops (and I did too!)

Moving On!
It's official we are now in the second trimester. The morning sickness is subsiding I'm getting sick less and less. I've eaten beef a couple of times this week and kept it all down.
The baby is now the size of a peach, and has vocal chords. I'm sure Dave can't wait for the baby to start screaming in the middle of the night.
I have a doctor's appointment next week, Dave is taking half a day to come with me. We should be able to hear the baby's heartbeat on the doppler. We've seen the heartbeat but this will make it more real.
Around the yard, we planted a raspberry bush, right now it's just a stick in the ground but someday we will be able to pick berries from it. The carrots and peas have popped up in the garden, and our strawberry plants now have small green berries on them. Next summer Dave will have a little gardener to help him water the plants and eat all the veggies from the garden.

Some miscellaneous things
Well, the four days of no puking was too good to be true. Peggy has puked a couple of times in the last 24 hours, although she is feeling pretty good tonight. Hopefully its slowing down a bit, and she's not sick the entire pregnancy like her mom was with her! (Also, because apparently that means the baby is a girl....and we all know that's not true! Haha.)
We headed up to Babies R Us on saturday to start registering. Yes, its still very early to register, but since we're going to Minnesota in just a bit over a month for Jon's wedding, we are having a baby shower then.
So, registering for a baby is not nearly as easy as registering for a wedding. I know a lot about kitchen gadgets, rugs, towels, bed sheets, etc.....but I (and we) don't know diddly squat about baby stuff. I never knew there were so many options for breast pumps (aka baby imitators)....some of them were $300. For that price they should come with a flat panel TV attached to give you something to watch while pumping!
Then it was on to the bottles, another overwhelming experience. Oh, and did you know that there are baby baths that have electric pumps that shoot out water like in a jacuzzi? Ridiculous! Needless to say, we registered for the simple choice.
Then we hit up the stroller/carseat combos. This is where its at people! By far the most fun we had registering thus far. We got to pull them all out, figure out how to collapse them, etc. Good thing there wasn't a baby in there yet, because trust me, it was a tough ride sometimes! But, hey, you gotta make sure its sturdy, right? We finally decided on one.
We then decided to call it a day. We were exhausted after having been in there for almost 2 hours! And we only made it about a 1/3 of the way around the store! I guess we'll be back next week.
Since this is such a long post, we decided it needs a picture, so here's one of the stroller we spent forever picking out. I'm not a fan of the black and red, but does it really matter?

It's just bloat...well some of it
So some of you have been asking if I'm starting to show.... and well yes a little. I was never a small girl, I have a thick waist so add on a few pounds it shows rather quickly. I am also going to say this pic was following dinner where I ate and kept down half a brat, baked beans and some potatoes o'brian.
So there it is the growing belly, in all it's glory. While I continue to pack on the pounds David tells me he's under 140lbs, he sure knows how to make a pregnant lady feel good.

Feeling better
So the past few days, the growing baby is being kind to Peggy. She has had a few bouts of dry heaving, but no puking for three days straight! Hooray! Hopefully this will keep up and she will keep feeling better over the coming weeks.
In other news, we're 12 weeks along today! Hooray again! In the next week or so, we will be moving into the much coveted 2nd trimester. I say coveted, because in the myriad of pregnancy books that have made their way throughout our house over the last couple months, the authors usually say the 2nd trimester is the best. I'll tell you one thing, the 1st trimester sure has been tough on me! (David) Haha. Oh, and I guess its been pretty tough on Peggy too.
In one final note, the last two weeks have seen Peggy switching to a "round the clock" approach to eating. She's pretty much grazing like a cow all day. Of course I don't mean that she looks like a cow. In fact, she is still not looking too pregnant, although the belly is starting to grow. And as I write this, she is telling the baby to cover his (yes, I said his, although that obviously is just my opinion) ears. Then the dirty words fill the air, yet she continues to let me write it. I think she's beautiful and wonderful for everything she is going through to bring our baby into the world.
The "round the clock" approach leaves me to cooking for one at night. The smell of basically ANYTHING I eat now sends Peggy directly for the bedroom to hideout or the bathroom to puke.
Isn't pregnancy a thing of beauty?
